Cinephile
Terms of use.
Version 2026-10-24. Plain English, because you should be able to read it. Using Cinephile means you accept what is below.
1. What Cinephile is
Cinephile is a free app for Windows, Linux, macOS and Fire TV that gathers information about films and series in one place, and opens the streaming services you already pay for. It is made and run by Hitesh Vaghela as a personal project.
2. What Cinephile is not
It does not host, stream, download, record or re-broadcast any film, series or video. There is nothing to play inside it. When you press Watch, it opens the official app or website of the service, and that service plays the video under its own terms.
It is not connected with, endorsed by or sponsored by Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar, YouTube, TMDB, JustWatch, OMDb, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, Amazon or Google. Their names and logos belong to them and are shown only so you can tell one service from another.
3. You need your own subscriptions
Cinephile shows you where something is available. Watching it still needs your own account with that service, and your own subscription. Nothing here gets around a paywall, a region lock or a sign-in.
4. You need your own API keys
The catalogue, the ratings and the YouTube search come from TMDB, OMDb and the YouTube Data API. You create those keys yourself, free, and they stay yours. Using them means you also accept those providers' own terms, including their limits on how often you may ask and what the data may be used for. If a provider blocks or withdraws your key, that part of the app stops working, and there is nothing Cinephile can do about it.
5. An account is optional
The app works on its own, with everything kept on your device. An account exists for one reason: to keep several devices in step, so your watchlist, ratings and settings are the same on your PC and your TV. You can use Cinephile for years without making one.
If you do make one, you must be old enough to agree to terms where you live, and at least 13. Keep your password to yourself; anything done with your account is treated as done by you.
6. How you may use it
Please do not:
- use it to break the terms of Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, YouTube or any other service;
- use it to copy, record or redistribute anything those services show you;
- resell it, or charge anyone for access to it;
- take it apart to get at someone else's data, or try to reach an account that is not yours;
- point automated tools at the sync service, or use it to store things that have nothing to do with the app.
Accounts that do any of this can be closed without notice.
7. The information may be wrong
Availability, audio languages, ratings, certificates and dates come from other people's data and from the services' own public pages. They go out of date, they contain mistakes, and they differ by country. Treat everything Cinephile tells you as a strong hint, not a promise. Always check on the service itself before counting on it.
8. It is free, and given as it is
Cinephile costs nothing and comes with no warranty of any kind. It may stop working at any time: a service can change its pages, a provider can withdraw an API, and the sync server can go down or be retired. There is no promise that it will keep running, keep your data, or suit any particular purpose.
9. Limits of responsibility
As far as the law allows, Hitesh Vaghela is not responsible for any loss that comes from using Cinephile — including lost data, lost time, a suspended account with a streaming service or an API provider, charges you run up, or anything you decide to watch or not watch because of what the app showed you. If you are unhappy with it, the remedy is to stop using it and, if you wish, delete your account.
Nothing here takes away rights you have by law that cannot be signed away.
10. Ending it
You can stop at any time: uninstall the app, and delete your account from your account page. Deleting removes your data from the server for good. Cinephile may also close an account that breaks these terms, or shut the service down altogether, with reasonable notice where that is possible.
11. Changes
These terms may change as the app does. The version date at the top changes with them, and the current text always lives at this address. Carrying on using Cinephile after a change means you accept the new version.
12. Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Gujarat, India have jurisdiction.
13. Getting in touch
Questions, problems or requests about your data: use the contact page.
